TAILGATERS STAY DRY
A huge TJC crowd hurried to the shelter of our once-again annual tailgate tent before the many-times postponed Baylor game.  At least we had lots of food and drink to keep us happy during the postponements.  Thanks many, many times to Crown Beverage for helping us resurrect this tradition.

IT'S RENEWAL TIME
Renewals hit the mail this month to allow everyone to send them in advance or bring them to the Self luncheon to pick up membership cards and the insulated TJC mug/gift for the 2008 membership year.  Be sure to pick yours up--they take up lots of storage space.

TJC VOLUNTEERS WELCOME HONORS BANQUET STUDENTS
A group of TJC volunteers welcomed top 10 percent county students and their parents at the annual KU Honors banquet November 13.  TJC again bought a table to help sponsor the event which is in its 36th year.  KU Alumni Association sponsors the event.

MANGINO'S PRICE RISES
The Mangino autographed football at the annual Junior Achievment Auction went for $35 last year in the silent auction.  This year's ball went in the live auction for $425.  Amazing what difference a year makes!

FOOTBALL HUMOR
Pretty much everyone has heard the joke about Nebraska Coach Bill Callahan taking a new job as the coach of the US Olympic Bobsled Team --because no one else can take  team downhill so fast.  There are those who are wondering if K-State Coach Ron Prince will be signing on as Callahan's assistant.  And for anyone feeling sorry for K-State, just remember how their student section joined the Mizzou section to chant "Beat KU" in the closing minutes of the K-State/Mizzou game.  Followed shortly by Coach Prince telling the press that MU Coach Gary Pinkel has Prince's vote for Big 12 Coach of the Year.  Shows Prince's ability to pick best coaches right up there with his ability to call plays.

FOOTBALL HISTORY
Not enough was made in the coverage of the Iowa State victory that the victory, being the 11th, is the most KU has ever won in a season IN HISTORY!  No best since 1995, no best since 1899, best IN HISTORY!  If you were there, save your ticket.

BEAKS & TAILS
--Have you seen the t-shirt with a picture of Abolitionist John Brown and the caption, "Kansas: Keeping America Safe from Missouri Since 1854"?  Pretty amusing when compared to Mizzou's shirt celebrating the 183 death toll at Quantrill's Raid. Who says Americans have short attention spans?

--A handful of TJC members found themselves "trapped" in the audience of KU Theatre's Music Man November 10 as part of the Murphy Hall 50th Anniversary Celebration festivities.  Meanwhile, the football game was raging in Stillwater.  Text messages and cellphones were whipped out at intermission and immediately at the curtain to check scores, and you could hear the score being audibly passed around the audience even as the final ovation was fading.  Needless to say, a good time was had by all.

--The KC Star ran several articles about the Border "Showdown" leading up to the big game, including one about a Platte County, MO, judge who actually has a picture of the Quantrill raid and the death toll on his office wall.  And they wonder why KU people just don't much like Mizzou folks.

AND JUST TO GET YOU IN THE MOOD!
--When starting state goverment, Columbia and Jefferson City competed to see who would get first choice to have either the state university or the state penitentiary.  Columbia lost.  Course their athletics coaches still seem a little confused on which one they're running.

And, stolen from the internet--

--A Missouri fan called the hospital saying "My wife is having a baby, what should I do?" The nurse asked, "Is this her first baby?" The Tiger fan replied, "No, this is her husband."
--Q: How many Missouri fans does it take to eat a possum? A: Three. One to eat the possum and two to watch for cars.
--Q: What did the Missouri Tiger fan do after coming upon a stop sign in Columbia?
A: I don't know - he's still there.

--Q: Why is it so difficult to solve a murder in Missouri?A: All the DNA is the same and there are no dental records
--Q: Hear about the Tiger fan who lost $50 on the football game?A: He lost $25 on the game and $25 on the instant replay.
--Did you hear about the Missouri grad who bought an AM Radio? It took him two weeks to figure out that the radio works at night, too.

--A Missouri Tiger football player was almost killed in a tragic horseback riding accident.
He fell from the horse and was nearly trampled to death.Luckily the manager of the WalMart came out and unplugged it in time!

--Little Tommy went to kindergarten one day wearing a KU hat. His teacher asked him why he was a KU fan. He said,"Because my parents are." His teacher said,"That's not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?" He replied,"Well then I would be a Missouri fan."
--Q: What do you call a person from Mizzou in a three piece suit? A: The defendant.

--Q: Why is the "Wave" outlawed at Faurot Field?  Two Mizzou students drowned last year.

--How do you get a K-State grad off your porch?  Pay him for the pizza. (Had to shake you up just a bit.)

--How do you run a small business? Start with a large business and put a Mizzou grad in charge.  (Remember that Ken Lay of Enron fame is an MU grad.)

--Q: Why do Mizzou grads hang their diplomas on the rear-view mirror?  A: So they can park in a handicapped spot.

--Q: Why doesn't Mizzou keep ice on their sidelines?  A: The guy with recipe graduated last year.

--Q: What does the average Mizzou player get on his SAT's? A: Drool.

--Q: How do you keep a Mizzou co-ed from biting her nails?  A: Make her wear shoes.

--Q: How do you break a Mizzou student's finger?  A: Punch him in the nose.

--A guy walks into a bar and says, "Hey barkeep, did you ever hear the one about the Mizzou Tigers?" Four huge men stand up and approach the man. One of them says, "We play football at Mizzou, you wanna tell that joke to us?" The guy replies, "What? And have to explain it four times?"

--A man walks into a store and says, "I would like a black and yellow striped hat, yellow pants, black sweater, and yellow shoes." The clerk says, "Are you a Tiger fan?" "Yes," replies the man. "How did you guess? By the color combination?" "No," answers the clerk. "This is a hardware store."

--Two MU Tigers were running all over the campus yelling, jumping, hollering, and hootin'. When someone stopped them and asked them why they were so excited they said, "We just finished a jigsaw puzzle in only two months!! And it said 2-4 years!"

--Q: What's the best four years in the life of a Mizzou Tiger? A: Third grade.
